COACH
- PEER - MENTORING PROGRAM
The Peer-Mentoring Program is a supportive
approach to teaching and learning that links teachers seeking assistance
with teachers providing consultation.
COACHES
The Content Coaches and collaborating
teacher/mentors provide support, technical assistance, and commitment
to teachers.
TEACHERS
Teachers needing peer assistance,
including new teachers, teachers on Professional Growth Plans,
teachers teaching out of their certification areas, teachers requesting
assistance, and teachers at "More Accountable Schools" campuses
are eligible for services.
GAME PLAN
Coaches and teachers target student
achievement through the following actions:
- Observing
- Modeling
- Sharing ideas and skills
- Utilizing materials for
further study
Teachers plan and complete
activities to promote their own professional growth plans. Coaches
provide objective data and feedback regarding teacher and student classroom
performance. Peer-mentoring results in changes in student learning
when coaching follows established staff development training concepts.

COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP
The District, using State
Compensatory Education funding, and the Corpus Christi American Federation
of Teachers (CCAFT), with support from The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation
(EMCF), have collaborated to improve teachers' knowledge of subject matter
and their abilities to meet the needs of learners with different developmental
levels and backgrounds, including students in at-risk situations.
The District's vision for staff
development is based on national standards:
- Results-driven
- Standards-based
- Job-embedded
- Linked to student learning
needs
- In-depth
- Discipline-focused (content)
- Essential
The District believes that teachers,
staff, parents, students, and community and business representatives should
play an essential role in the learning process.
The partners (District and CCAFT)
are modeling the collaboration needed to enhance instruction and to improve
student achievement.
The Content Coach Collaborative
is not a part of the District's Teacher Appraisal System.
